Hello readers!
I’m so sorry for the lack of recent posts, life has been crazy and I haven’t had as much time for reading as I would like to, but here I am, with an amazing book review, and an exciting announcement!
Firstly, I’m going to review a new book to me, “To Wager Her Heart” by Tamera Alexander.
“To Wager Her Heart” is a historical Christian romance set in Nashville, Tennessee, near the Belle Meade Plantation. It follows the story of Southern Belle, Alexandra Jamison, and railroad owner Sy Rutledge.
Each broken by a common tragedy, Alexandra and Sy are trying to rise above the circumstances.
Alexandra Jamison is a beautiful, Southern Belle, torn by the loss of her fiancé in a horrific train accident. Distraught with grief, she strives to find new meaning to her life. Stumbling into a musical performance by singers from the local freedman’s school, Fisk University, she believes she has found her calling in life. When Alexandra is thrust from home because of her choice to teach at Fisk University, she finds herself trapped into a business proposal by the one man she determined not to trust, Sy Rutledge.
Sylas Rutledge has risen above the circumstances following his father’s train crash, as well as the succeeding judgement that it had been his father’s fault. Though starting out in a mining camp out west, He’s now built up his railroad company, and ready to continue expanding. Now, when he needs tutelage on becoming the perfect Southern Gentleman before his business meetings, he turns to Alexandra for help.
Together, Sy and Alexandra must learn to both move on from their pasts, and find love together in the future, and save the Fisk University, and the Jubilee Singers, from financial ruin!
I really enjoyed this book, although I felt as if some things were left slightly unfinished. I really wished there had been more insight into the story of Abigail, and I am hoping as I read the rest of the Belle Mead Plantation books, that I will get to learn more about her.
All in all, the biggest factor I love about this book is simply the historical knowledge I gleaned from it! Even on that alone, I would highly recommend it to any historical fiction lover! I loved learning about the Jubilee singers, and Fisk University, and it was eye opening to me to read of the train accidents, as well as the mention of Phillip P. Bliss!
All in all, 4.5 out of 5 Stars!!
Wonderful job Ms. Alexander!
