"The Healer's Apprentice" by Melanie Dickerson

Hi there! Today I'm going to be reviewing one of my favorite books! This book is the start of the Hagenheim series by Melanie Dickerson. This is a free book with Kindle Unlimited! It was published in September of 2010, and there are 11 books in the entire series!

The Healer's Apprentice is a storybook retelling of the classic tale, Sleeping Beauty. It is such an excellent book, and the sweet, forbidden love between Wilhelm and Rose is so lovely. Though they are separated by rank, staus, money, family, and even common sense, they cannot deny their attraction to one another. When testing and tragedy comes to their small town, can their love overcome it by prayer and true love's kiss?

Rose is only a simple woodcutter's daughter, but she dreams of more than her mother has planned. She has been given the oppurtunity to apprentice under the town's healer, instead of marrying the rich, old, lecherous men her mother would wish her to. Though she may be a little squeamish at the sight of blood, Rose knows she cannot waste this oppurtunity, and tries her best to please her mistress. But when the young Lord of the kingdom, Lord Wilhelm Gerstenberg, comes in for some stitches, Rose's life will never be the same.

Wilhelm has always tried to do the right thing for his kingdom, including ridding it from the evil wizard, Moncore, who threatens his betrothed, Lady Salome, but he feels as if he has failed, with every year that goes by that his bethrothed has to stay in hiding. Torn between his duty, and his increasing attratction towards the young healer's apprentice, is Wilhelm willing to risk all for the chance to find love?

When tragedy strikes, and Rose must wage a war unseen, will the power of prayer to God Almighty, and true love's kiss be enough to save her, and give Wilhelm a gift so precious, as well as protecting his kingdom and his betrothed?

As the start to this series, I was amazed by this book! It made me laugh, it made me cry, it even made me fear for Rose and Wilhelm, but the overwhelming truth was shown- God is Almighty and his plan is so much higher than we could ever imagine! It is a clean romance for any young person, or adult who loves a perfect fairy tale, with not so perfect characters. I wholeheartedly give this book 5 stars!
