"A Reluctant Bride" by Jody Hedlund

Hi everyone!

Today I’m writing a review on a book from one of my favorite authors- Jody Hedlund!

A Reluctant Bride was written by Jody Hedlund and was published in June of 2019.

What would you do if your only choice was to leave the only home you knew, to go become a bride in a strange and foreign land?

Mercy Wilkins is known in the slums near her home as an angel of mercy to those in need. Though she can barely take care of herself, she daily sacrifices to help others more desperate than herself. When she is cast from her own home, her only viable option for herself, and future hope for her sister, is to leave on a ship bound for North America.

Dr. Joseph Colville has been running all his life. Though born into nobility, he has temporarily shunned the life to become a doctor at sea. He knows he must someday take over the legacy in the House of Lords his father left him before he died, and marry a suitable wife to match, he cannot seem to escape the grief that hounds his every step.

Thrust together as they care for a young girl aboard the ship, Mercy and Joseph are immediately drawn to each other. She has never had a man treat her with such respect, and certainly not a lord. He has never met a woman with such great love and compassion for others.

When time threatens to rip them apart, will they be able to withstand the pressures of society’s traditions? Or will they be able to let go of the grief and pain of the past, and learn to embrace the love they have for each other?

The story of Mercy and Joseph was such a beautiful romance. Mrs. Hedlund does magnificent work in rounding her characters so that they come to life with real emotions. There has not been a book yet that she has written that I have not enjoyed thoroughly.

While a romance between Mercy and Joseph seemed impossible, God drew them together in the most miraculous way. The hardships Mercy went though, and her acquiescence to her station in life only served to teach Joseph how blessed he really was. Joseph’s standing and position mattered little in Mercy’s world, but he showed her that things didn’t always have to be the same as they were in the slums of London. All in all, I would recommend this book to any historical Christian fiction romance lover! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series- “The Runaway Bride”

5 Full Stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
